FACILITIES AT BLACK ORCHARD BOTHY
We have done everything we can think of to make you immediately feel at home at the Bothy.
Parking is in the farmyard 150 yards from the Bothy, so a wheelbarrow for moving your luggage is provided, and we are very happy to help ferry your bags.
The Bothy is set in its own enclosure in a ten acre hay meadow overlooking the Gwendraeth Valley. There is no other guest accommodation on the farm, so you can be assured of peace and quiet. Having said that, this is a working farm so machinery might be in use at times such as haymaking, but this is infrequent and only ever during the day, so the only thing to keep you awake at night will be the hooting of the owls.
Adjacent to the Bothy is a traditional firepit with a tripod, kettle and Dutch oven, so you can try your hand at proper campfire cooking. There is also a pizza oven / barbecue for delicious outdoor meals on a summer evening.
Further afield, in the woods leading down to the river, is a picnic area with a second firepit, a double hammock and waterproof beanbags. A wicker picnic hamper is available to borrow for a romantic picnic in the woods.
Guests of any religion or none are all very welcome, and on request we can decorate the Bothy as appropriate for any festival you wish, be it Beltane, Diwali, Hanukkah, Eid or Christmas (there is a small charge for this).
There is a flushing toilet for your use in the porch of the farmhouse, and here is also local tourist information and a library of books and board-games for you to borrow.
